Cary Magazine's Elegant Weddings Gala

I have always loved shooting for Cary Magazine.  It gives me such variety in my photography and the people are wonderful to work with on these projects.  Tonight I had the opportunity to join them for their Elegant Wedding Gala bridal show.  So many cool brides and some really sweet Mom's helping their daughters out.  They also gave out one lucky couple their DREAM wedding.  It was great meeting everyone and working with so many great vendors! Special thanks to The English Garden for giving us the flowers and to the Matthews House for hosting the event!

Should Photographers give out their digital negatives?

I came across this blog post from another photographer and I must say I couldn't agree more.  However with that said I do sell my digital negatives but I have always been very particular about only giving the DVD to my clients when they get their 200 4x6 prints in their image box.  This way they can see GOOD processing first before they take my DVD some where and the prints look terrible and they think it is my photography and not the labs processing.  With that said anytime you do a large print for display you REALLY want to use a pro lab not a consumer lab.  Here is a link to the article.  A very interesting read.    http://www.wendylwhitephotography.com/info/?p=481

Choose your favorite Image and help a poor photographer...

I have an upcoming bridal show at the Matthews House on Thursday.  Yes, nothing like waiting till the last minute.  I have built the set, gotten my materials and books together and have procrastinated till the end on choosing the images I will display at the show.  After shooting literally thousands upon thousands of beautiful brides how on earth do I just choose 4 - 6 images to display?! I mean REALLY?!!  It helps a little that I have to narrow it down by choosing a little different style in each and pictures that kind of go together so it doesn't look weird but STILL.  It feels like an impossible task.  So I am asking for your HELP!  Please comment on which is your favorite which will at least tell me what you like which is probably the most important factor as I am sure I can be prejudiced on weird things like perfect lighting, perfect composition etc. etc. etc.

SO HELP A GILR OUT!  Let me know your favorite by commenting below.  THANKS!!!! And if you need a ticket I have some I can send you.  They are $20 at the door so if you are going take advantage.  CaryElegant Weddings Gala at the Matthews House.  http://www.matthews-house.com/

PLEASE CHOOSE YOUR FAVORITE 4 IMAGES AND LEAVE AS A COMMENT BELOW. THANKS!!!!

Death by Cupcake

Ok so maybe not death but it will kill your diet for sure!  I was never a sweets or cake person but after shooting weddings for almost 10 years now I have become quite the cake conosuer.  And then the Cupcake Shoppe came to town.  You can just pop in and have a mini cake the quality of wedding cake at almost any hour.  An hence I drove by today and this is what I bought... Shame shame on me! But for those of you planning your weddings GUESS WHAT?!  They do cakes and then cupcakes around the cake for guests or a version there of depending on your style.  Might be a fun option!  http://www.thecupcakeshopperaleigh.com/

Baby Ragan: Raleigh Baby Photography

I know so many talented photographers.  Janell, a good friend of mine is one of them. I was so honored when she asked me to photograph her new born.  Of course is fabulous and could have done it herself but it made my whole week for her to let me caputer this little one in her first weeks of life.  Keep in mind the shot that has the baby in the net with the tree took THREE of us to do! So if you want this shot you better bring a friend or Dad.  ;  )  Baby and Infant photography is truly such a special joy for me to shoot.

Loving Boys! Yates Mill Photographer Raleigh

How cute are these two boys.  The page boy hats with the rustic background of Yates Mill makes for the perfect portrait.  I know Mom will be loving these!

Funniest Request EVER!

Ok... Every once in a while I get an email that has me rolling on the floor!  This was one such email.  I couldn't help but post it!!!!

Hi Diane,

My parent's 40th anniversary is coming up and it struck me that some time with you would make a very nice gift. If you're interested I'd love to set something up. Their house is littered with decades of hyper posed chin on fist Olin Mills abominations, so a few quality photos would be a very welcome change.

Before you say yes, there's a few things you should know in the interest of full disclosure...

They don't photograph particularly well. Just look at my picture and add 20 years. See what I mean?

They'll require a bit of handholding and perhaps some guidelines beforehand with regard to wardrobe. Plaid and stripes. They'll do it. I've seen it.

They'll be exceptionally nervous, anxious and eager to please, meaning that they'll smile perpetually like Cheshire cats and answer any question you ask with "anything you say is just fine". Wanna do a few dressed as head bangin' rodeo clowns playing air guitars to Van Halen's Hot for Teacher? Yep, they sure do. Anything you say is just fine. You'll have to make most of the decisions.

Mom wears these big glasses with Transistions auto-tinting lenses that make her look like Keith Richards with a perm in direct sunlight. Also, she seems to have a congenital condition that impairs her ability to open her eyes during photographs. Sorry, no suggestions, yer' just gonna have to work around those...

Anyway, if all of that isn't enough to send you running to the hills, then yer' my girl. The upside is, they're both exceptionally cute and my Mom will most probably bring you cookies.

I have no timeline for this what so ever. Whatever works for you and them is fine for me. They're both retired so nearly anytime will work. Just let me know what you'd require in the way of wampum ahead of time and I'll cut you a check. You can pick the outdoor venue of your choice and we'll figure out a way to get you all on the same page with regard to when.

Many thanks,

-ron

G Gang! Yates Mill Portrait Photographer

How great is this brother and sister team!  Look at those eyes.  Gotta love it when I get to photograph such fun and cute people.  We went out to the historic Yates Mill to photograph these two.  It is just beautiful out there and will be even more so in the upcoming weeks.
